statement of faith of
pentecostal churches of uganda
The Holy
Scriptures
We believe that the Holy Bible is the Word of God,
being inspired and given to us by the Holy Spirit and therefore is infallible
and without contradiction.
God
We believe in one God who exist in the Holy Trinity
with the Son and Holy Spirit., the Creator of heaven and earth, both visible
and invisible things. We believe in his infinite and divine nature, God
absolute holy and righteous, who is love and cares for man and all His
creation.
Jesus
Christ
We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is Messiah, the Son
of God, being sent from the Father into the world to save mankind. We believe
him to be the second person in the Trinity and ever existing from eternity in
the form and likeness of God. We believe in His incarnation as the means for
Christ to enter into the world, being born as a true human being. We believe in
Christ’s sinless character, His divine miracles and life-giving words as being
authentic and true proofs of His divine mission to redeem the world. We
believe, therefore, that Christ Jesus is fully God and man, the only Saviour of
lost man.
The Holy
Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit as a divine Person in
the Trinity and that he therefore is Eternal, Divine and Almighty God the
Spirit. We believe He was active in the creation of the world and present
throughout the Old Testament times. In a special way he was present with power
in the life and ministry of Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit came to dwell on earth
on the day of Pentecost and is still with the church of Christ until the day of
redemption.
Man
We believe that man was created in the image of God
and placed in the Garden of Eden as God’s vice regent on earth. We believe that
man fell into sin by disobeying the command of God and thus became a sinner,
utterly depraved of any possibility to obtain eternal life by means invented by
him. We believe therefore that every human being on earth is in need of
salvation from God.
The
Atonement
We believe in the vicarious death of Christ on the
cross of Calvary. His death atoned for man’s sin and brought reconciliation
between God and man. We believe that his blood is the only and all sufficient
means by which man can be saved through faith and have eternal life. We believe
that Christ conquered the devil on the cross and rendered his powerless who had
the power of death. Christ gave this victory to his church.
Salvation
We believe that any sinner can be saved through repentance
and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his vicarious death. We believe that it
is the right of every human being to partake of salvation, make available
through the preaching of the Gospel. This salvation is to be experienced here
and in our lifetime.
The water
baptism
We believe that whosoever has believed and been born
again shall be baptised in water by the way of immersion. This is in accordance
with the teachings of the New Testament. We believe that infants are included
in the redemptive work of Christ and therefore do not need water baptism in
order to be purified from sins.
Sacraments
We believe that the New Testament only acknowledges
two sacraments, that of water baptism and the Holy Communion. We believe that
water baptism is experienced only once while the holy Communion is repeated
often in remembrance of the Lord Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection.
The baptism
in the Spirit
We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire.
This baptism gives power from on high in the lives of the saints. We believe
that this gift is offered by grace of God through faith and received by the way
of earnest prayer. It is a promise of the Lord to all the saints. We believe in
the gifts of the Spirit mentioned in the New Testament and that these gifts are
operating today for the edification of the believers and the progress of the
Gospel in the world.
The church
We believe in the living universal and local church of
Christ on earth. That it consists of born again believers who through baptism
are know as the visible and local church in every place. We believe in the
biblical and divine order of the church, that she shall be governed by the
pastor and the elders with practical assistance from the deacons and
deaconesses chosen by the Christians of each particular local church. We
believe that the church shall be self-governed, self-supported and
self-propagating in the world. We believe that the greatest responsibility of
the church is to preach the Gospel everywhere and win souls to Christ in every
generation.
The second
coming of Christ
We believe in the Second Coming of Christ being
preceded by the resurrection and rapture of the saints from earth. We believe
in the Judgement Seat of Christ where believers will receive their rightful
reward or experience a loss of it in accordance to what has been done in the
body. We believe in the Marriage feast of the Lamb and Christ’s glorious return
to this earth together with all his saints.
The
Millennium
We believe in a literal Millennium when Christ will
sit on his glorious throne as king and rule over the earth.
We believe in the transformation of this world through
the intervention and presence of Christ and in salvation of the Jewish nation
when they will believe in Christ at His coming. We believe in the
transformation and redemption of nature together with the salvation of nations
during the Millennium in accordance with the prophecies of the Bible.
Judgement
and eternity
We believe in the final judgement of God when all the
unrighteous men and women will be resurrected and stand before the Great White
Throne to receive their judgement according to their deeds. We believe that
their fate will be in the eternal fire as recorded in the Bible, separated from
God for eternity, together with the devil and all his angels. We believe that both the sky and the earth
will be consumed in fire, after which comes the eternal state when God shall be
all in all. We believe there shall be new heavens and new earth were righteousness
will dwell and sin be banished forever.
